A new study shows that THC may be able to help those with lung inflammation and other respiratory issues.

A recent study was published that found tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) could have anti-inflammatory properties and be a potential treatment for chronic inflammation in the body, such as asthma or arthritis.

Cannabis may be able to help those with lung inflammation and other respiratory issues.

A recent study published in Frontiers in Pharmacology made major headlines last year july 6 2020, as it revealed that cannabis could help with COVID-19 related conditions like chronic bronchitis or asthma.

COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc on the human body

Now, a new breakthrough has arisen that is tackling this problem head on. Recently tested with mice and people have been pleased with the results! The respiratory issues are now being addressed worldwide as COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across the planet making folks worry about inflammation.

COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc on the human body, and it’s about to get even worse. Upwards of 50% of ARDS sufferers die each year; that number is only going up this time around due to a phenomenon called a cytokine storm. In related news, some people have taken COVID-19 for an antihistamine when they were allergic instead because their symptoms seemed similar in onset.

Cytokine Storms and Cannabis

Reporting on the latest research from a leading medical institute, IFL Science discusses how in patients with respiratory disease, lethal symptoms are usually triggered by a surge of signals called cytokines. Cytokines are small messengers released by cells and important for immune response when the body is under attack.

This report from IFL Science reveals the importance of how cytokine storms in respiratory diseases are followed by a surge of lethal symptoms.

Cannabis and Inflammatory

What if we didn’t have to worry about any of that? This is a question many people might ponder, but for those with respiratory diseases like Cystic Fibrosis or Asthma (amongst others), this dream can actually become reality.

In respiratory disease cases where the immune system overreacts and releases too many pro-inflammatory cytokines, causing hyper inflammation – often leading to death – there may be one simple solution: Let it all out!

Okay I know what you’re thinking: How does releasing more inflammatory substances help in these situations? Well luckily enough studies show us just how powerful anti-inflammatory cells are when released during an attack on your lungs. Their job essentially becomes “calming down the storm”

Scientists have done research to see if THC can induce anti-inflammatory Tregs and MDSCs in mice exposed to SEB. They found that the induction of these cells was regulated by miR, so their next step is figuring out how this works with let7a-5p and miR-34-5p regulation on signaling molecules affecting both Tregs or MDSCS functions.

The University of South Carolina has been studying how cannabis impacts inflammation, and they found that when patients with ARDS symptoms received THC treatment, the cytokines responsible for damaging lungs were blocked.

This prevented any extreme damage to the body from being caused by storms triggered by those same inflammatory chemicals in mice who had no access to a similar drug like marijuana.

The proof is finally in the pudding! With these recent studies, it’s safe to say that cannabis can be a major player on our road to curing COVID. The only thing left for us now is more research and clinical trials before we know anything definitive.
